    Empowering communities begins with knowledge.

    Light Education and Health

Light influences visibility, learning, workplace performance, safety, sleep and general wellbeing. Inadequate or poorly designed lighting can create visual discomfort, reduce productivity and increase electricity costs, while excessive glare and inappropriate light exposure can negatively affect comfort and health. The Light Education and Health Programme helps schools, homes, workplaces, health facilities and community buildings understand and improve the way they use both natural and artificial light.

    Our Areas of Action

    Lighting Assessment and Education

We assess illumination conditions and explain how light levels, glare, flicker, colour and placement influence visibility, comfort, safety and performance.

    Daylighting Solutions

Building users learn how windows, transparent roofing and improved interior arrangements can increase the effective use of natural light during the day.

    Efficient Artificial Lighting

We support appropriate lamp selection, LED retrofits, improved fixture placement, lighting controls and maintenance practices that reduce waste and cost.

    Solar and Community Lighting

Solar lighting solutions can improve safety, extend productive hours and provide dependable illumination where conventional electricity is unreliable or unavailable.

    Our Approach

Each intervention begins with an assessment of the building, user activities and existing lighting conditions. We then recommend practical improvements that balance visual performance, health, energy efficiency and affordability. Users and facility managers are guided on correct operation and maintenance.
